Laurie graduated from Brown University with BA in psychology and later obtained an MS in occupational therapy from Columbia University with the intention of going into pediatrics after interning at a clinic specializing in sensory processing disorders. Initially she helped adults with a variety of medical diagnoses and disabilities to regain function and independence in a hospital setting for several years. However, she missed working with children and in 2011 made the transition back to pediatrics, practicing OT in an outpatient clinic with children with a range of diagnoses including cerebral palsy, ADD/ADHD, autism, developmental delays, physical disabilities and sensory processing disorder. Laurie has worked in pediatric home care at Sensational Kidz since 2015 and has a passion for play-based therapy with children and collaborating with families, teachers and other providers to find the most fun, effective and realistic treatment strategies. She approaches issues with a holistic perspective, finding the best solution to meet the needs of each individual child within the family context. Laurie has specialized in oral motor issues and feeding therapy via the S.O.S. (Sequential Oral Sensory) Approach to Feeding, is certified in the Handwriting Without Tears Program and is proficient in both the Alert Program for Self-Regulation: How Does Your Engine Run? and Zones of Regulation. She is also a registered yoga teacher (RYT) who teaches both adults and children and loves to incorporate elements of yoga (mindfulness, body awareness, balance) as well as poses into her pediatric OT sessions to help kids reach their full potential. Laurie lives in San Francisco with her husband, two children and their dog Lambchop.
